Malaysian is actually the official language of the country of Malaysia and is sometimes known as Bahasa Malaysia.
English is also an active language in Malaysia and, in fact, was actually the primary language in the country until 1969. After a series of riots in May 1969 following the country's general election, Malaysian became adopted as the national language. This was formalized in 1971 when the Malaysian government created a "National Cultural Policy" which promoted the Malaysian language above any other.
It is estimated some 290 million people speak a form of Malaysia, with the language covering not just Malaysia but also parts of Indonesia.
