Tagalog is a native language spoken in the Philippines. It belongs to the Austronesian language family. It is the most spoken language in the central parts of the country, especially in Manila. It is the second-largest spoken language in the Philippines after Filipino. Tagalog speakers can, however, be found in many other countries around the world.
Tagalog was the official language up until 1987, when it was changed to Filipino. It is a common assumption that Tagalog and Filipino are the same, but they are not. The latter is an evolution of the Tagalog language and is also influenced by other languages spoken in the Philippines.
