Hindi has a rich and exciting history and is the fourth most spoken language globally, despite not being a national language! Only Mandarin, Spanish, and English are more widely spoken.
However, along with English, it is the unofficial language of India. When considering that India actually has a population of over one billion people, it is perhaps understandable why Hindi is spoken by so many individuals! Around 341 million people speak it as their first language, with over 600 million people speaking it in some form. The majority of these speakers actually come from the northern half of India.
