Dice games are simple to learn and quick to play, and they suit short sessions on a phone. This guide covers the rules of instant dice, how the payout is set, how to play a round on mobile and how to check that results are fair. When you know the basics, our dice strategies for beginners show how to set thresholds and stakes.

The rules

Most instant dice games roll a number in a fixed range, often 0 to 100. Before each roll you set a threshold and choose Roll over or Roll under. If the result lands on your side of the threshold, you win your stake times the multiplier shown.

The multiplier depends on your chance of winning. A wide target wins often and pays little; a narrow one wins rarely and pays a lot. The game takes a small house edge from every setting, so no threshold is better than another over time. Choose by how much swing your budget can take.

Dice also appear in table games. Sic Bo uses three dice and many bets on totals and combinations, and craps uses a sequence of rolls with pass and don't pass bets. Instant dice strips this down to one decision and no dealer.

How to play a round on your phone

  1. Set your stake. Start with the smallest amount while you learn.
  2. Set the threshold. Drag the slider or type a number. The win chance and the multiplier update as you move it.
  3. Choose over or under. Tap the button to switch sides.
  4. Roll. The result appears almost at once and any win goes straight to your balance.
  5. Repeat or adjust. Roll again with the same settings, or change stake and threshold.

Many games have an auto-roll mode that repeats your bet a set number of times. It is convenient on a phone, but it plays very fast. Use its stop-on-loss and stop-on-win settings.

Starting out

Begin in demo mode if the casino offers it, so you can see how the slider, chance and multiplier interact without risking money. A threshold near the middle gives you close to even chances and a payout just under 2x, which is the easiest way to learn the game. Studios such as Evolution and Playtech also make dice-based table and live games, if you want to move on to Sic Bo.

What makes a dice game play well on mobile

A good dice game loads quickly, keeps the slider and buttons large enough to use with a thumb, and shows the result without lag. Because rounds are so short, a stable connection matters: if the game stalls between bet and result, try another network or the casino's app.

Fairness and safety

Many dice games are provably fair. Before you roll, the game shows a hash of its server seed; after the roll you can combine the revealed seed with your own client seed and check that the result was fixed in advance. Our guide to provably fair dice walks you through it. Games from licensed casinos also use random number generators tested by independent labs such as eCOGRA.

Look for loss limits, session timers and self-exclusion in the casino's account menu, and set them before you play. Dice rounds take a second each, so a time limit matters as much as a money limit.

If you like dice, try Plinko, Limbo, Mines, coin flip or crash games. They share the same short rounds, provably fair results and one-screen controls.
