The rules of Mahjong largely follow the international version of the game. This means that each player needs to form a complete hand using 14 tiles, formed of three different sets as well as the head of the hand, the “winning tile”. The winning tile is the last tile to be added and what the players aim to win with.
In Mahjong, the sets can be a four-of-a-kind, a three-of-a-kind and a one-of-a-kind set. The four-of-a-kind set consists of four tiles, the three-of-a-kind set consists of three tiles, and the one-of-a-kind set consists of either seven pairs or one tile. There also exists a non-standard set called the “honor tiles” set, which consists of the tiles Winds and Dragons.
The player can also pick tiles from the stack, which consists of discarded tiles by the other players or from the wall if the stack is empty. The player can also discard one of his tiles, as long as it follows suit with the other players discards.
