Mahjong is a popular tile-based game, originating from the Qing dynasty in the 19th century, that involves skill, strategy and calculation. It is closely related to the card game rummy, with its main objective being to collect a complete set of tiles.
In Hungary, the game follows the same rules as the classical game. Traditional Mahjong is played with a set of 144 tiles, in four suits. Each suit is represented by nine tiles, one to nine, as well as four honours tiles, which are East, South, West, and North winds. The game is usually played with four players, with each player beginning with 13 tiles. After the tiles have been shuffled, each player draws 13 tiles to start their hand. The game is played in rounds, with players discarding tiles to create four valid sets and one valid pair. Once a player has a valid hand, he can declare Mahjong and end the round.
