Pai Gow is a traditional Chinese game originating from the Qing Dynasty and is still popular today. It is a domino game that is played between four players and a banker. The game is based on a simple premise: the banker is trying to beat the players with the strongest hand. Players try to beat the banker by constructing two hands out of seven tiles and trying to get the highest value hand.
To play Pai Gow in Ghana, players are dealt seven domino tiles, seven ‘gwong’ tiles, and four ‘fa’ tiles. Players may also receive a ‘goat’ tile as an additional bonus. The player must then construct two hands, a ‘high’ hand and a ‘low’ hand, using the seven tiles. The ‘high’ hand must be composed of two tiles, and the ‘low’ hand must be composed of five tiles. Then, the banker will compare the ‘high’ and ‘low’ hands to determine the winner. If the player’s hands are stronger than the banker’s, the player will win. If not, the banker will win.
