Mahjong, the Chinese tile-based game, is highly popular in Trinidad & Tobago. The game is played with 144 tiles divided into two distinct types — Suits and Honors. Suits consist of Bamboo, Circles, and Characters, while Honors comprise Winds and Dragons. The ultimate goal of the game is to be the first to form a winning hand.
In terms of rules, the game consists of 4 players, who sit around a table in a playroom. The player whose turn is coming up next will be the East Wind, while the other 3 players will become South, West, and North, respectively. After the seating arrangement is settled, each player is dealt 13 tiles by the game dealer. The remaining tiles are placed in a "Wall" near the East Wind. The object of the game is to form a winning hand by collecting and discarding tiles in a specific order.
