Mahjong is a table game played between four players. It is a four players’ game which is also known as ‘mahjong solitaire’. The main objective of the game is to arrange the tiles in a particular pattern and determine the different combinations used for scoring points. It is usually played with tiles which is a set of 144 tiles having distinctive symbols carved on them. The game has many variations in it, but the basic objective remains the same.
In Lithuania, Mahjong is traditionally played on a rectangular table with tiles arranged in a square shape. The players are required to arrange their pieces according to a pattern (known as the ‘Mahjong pattern’). The rules and regulations are set by the Mahjong Association of Lithuania.
The rules vary depending on the type of Mahjong variant being played. Generally, each player is required to select and discard tiles from the stacks of tiles placed at the center of the table. The players also need to declare a ‘call’ when they are ready to complete their set of tiles. The winner is determined by the number of combinations and points.
