Blackjack is typically played between a dealer and a single player or multiple players. The goal of the game is to have a hand that beats the dealer’s hand, without exceeding the total of 21. To start the game the player makes a bet. Then, the dealer will deal two cards to each player and two to himself, one face up and one face down. The cards that have numbers on them count as their numerical value, while figures (Jack, Queen and King) count as ten. The Ace can count as either one or eleven, depending on what is more advantageous for the hand’s total.
Based on the two cards that the player has and the one visible card of the dealer, the player has to make a decision - hit, stand, double down or split. If the player decides to hit, they will be dealt one more card. If the player decides to stand, they will keep their total and pass on the turn to the next player. If the player decides to double down, their initial bet is doubled and they receive one more card. If the player receives two of the same cards, they can split them and make two separate hands.
When all the players have finished playing, the dealer will turn his face-down card. The dealer needs to hit until their total reaches 17 or higher. All players that have a higher total than the dealer, without exceeding 21, will win the game. If the player’s total is 21 with the first two cards, it is called a blackjack and the player will win the game automatically.
