At a Dominican Republic casino, the rules of baccarat are similar to the other versions of the popular casino game. In a game of baccarat, players will receive two cards and the dealer will receive one or two cards. The goal of the game is to determine which card the player or the dealer will have closest to nine. The game is played with a standard 52-card deck and each card is assigned with a specific point value.
Aces are valued at one point, all face cards (Jack, Queen, King) are valued at ten points, and all other cards are worth the numerical value shown on the card. The total point value of a hand can never exceed nine points. If the total of a hand is greater than nine, the value of the last digit will be used as the total instead. For example, if the player is dealt a seven and a five, the total value of their hand will be two (7 + 5 = 12, 12 - 10 = 2).
The rules of the game are quite simple. The player or the dealer must have a hand with a total that is closest to nine. The highest winning hand is a nine. The lowest winning hand is an eight. If the total of a hand is nine, it is referred to as a “natural” and the round is over.
